A brief history
Gallet & Cie is one if not the world´s oldest watch and clock manufacturer and its history dates back to Humbertus Gallet (1430-1492), a clockmaker who became a citizen of Geneva in 1466.
The Gallet & Cie was officially registred by Julien Gallet (1806-1849) in 1826, who moved the family business from Geneva to La Chaux-de-Fonds, Canton of Neuchâtel. Prior to this date, operations commenced under the name of each of the Gallet family patriarchs.

Gallet is best known during the 20th century to the present day for its line of multi-chron wristwatches. Produced primarily for military, industrial and other professional applications, Gallet’s multi-chron watches often incorporated a number of advanced timekeeping innovations.
A Gallet timepiece of particular renown was the Flight Officer time zone chronograph. Commissioned by American Senator Harry Spencer Truman in 1939 for pilots of the US Army Forces, the Flight Officer had a rotating 12-hour bezel and the names of 23 major world cities printed on the periphery of the dial. These features made it possible to calculate changes in the time as an aviator flew across lines of longitude. Besides being the first time zone calculating wristwatch, the Flight Officer was one of the world’s first wrist chronographs to be housed in a water resistant case. Truman wore a Gallet Flight Officer during his terms as the 33rd America´s president (1945–1953).
The modern Gallet Co. is one of a small handful of independent Swiss watch brands that still maintain in-house manufacturing facilities. While recently expanding, the company’s marketing focus is to reach a wider audience of “civilian” consumers for its expensive professional-use timepieces.
In order to be updated with the developments of the watchmaking industry, Gallet & Co joined forces with Manufacture Horlogerie Lunesa, an old luxury watch manufacturer located in the village of Sevelen, canton of St.Gallen in the north-east region of Switzerland. During the 15th century, St. Gallen had a vigorous textile industry and now it is famous for the business school at the University of St. Gallen.
The legend continues…
The new Gallet Flight Officer Chronograph 75th Anniversary Edition is an extraordinary timepiece.
The image above provides a clear idea of the robust and stylish 43 mm diameter steel case.
With this new timepiece, Gallet brings back the same impeccable craftsmanship that made the original Flight Officer model, a true legend, and combined it with state-of-the-art new technology that will be setting an industry standard for years to come.
Gallet has worked closely with its manufacturing partner to develop a groundbreaking new chronograph movement, the Lunesa automatic calibre V1925, shown in the image below.
With the new V1925 movement, Gallet’s manufacturing partner has developed a way to eliminate this engineering hiccup through the incorporation of a unique vertical clutching system, making the Flight Officer Chronograph the most accurate and reliable pilot’s timepiece of its kind available today. And at only 5 1/2 millimeters in total thickness, watches powered by the new calibre V1925 can retain an impressive diameter while still fitting under the sleeve or cuff of a blazer.
It follows a diagram of the Flight Officer Chronograph features.
It is worth mentioning the timepiece brings the COSC accuracy certification and also no less important, a 5-years full-service warranty.
Which watch brand nowadays provides such warranty? Certainly very few.
Gallet & Co releases this amazing pilot´s chronograph in two limited edition series. The timepiece can be ordered through the watch brand´s official website: www.galletwatch.com
I suggest watch collectors, watch aficionados and customers in general to visit the official website in order to know more about the timepiece as well as the true values of the company.
